You may have perceived over the past few days or weeks that your ads are, no doubt obscurely “Flagged for removal” before they can even make it up to be hailed by your most equaled rival down the road. It gives the idea that Craigslist has unleashed a deadly professional killer, “flagbot” we’ll call it, that has restricted your posting action or even annihilated it. Well, we’re here to help as well as can be expected. There are two ways you can go down now, the straight and limited or the some of the time uneven and here and there shut street.
The straight and narrow road is the easy one to prescribe. It goes like this:
No? Not going to cut it? OK, well it was worth a shot! You need some help navigating the other road so here are some tips and pointer to make the ride a little more smooth.
This isn’t a life sentence.
Take a little break from Craigslist.org. They didn’t like how you were posting so you’re in timeout. We have heard from some of our customers just giving it a few days and trying again ended up helping, But when you come back don’t go back to your old posting habits! Keep reading!
Remember the Craigslist Golden Rule: Only post an item for sale in one city.
If you are breaking this rule and getting ghosted/flagged, you’re not doing a good job of protecting your ads. Really look at your ad titles and specific location boxes and make sure there is some diversity between posts. Still, Craigslist can monitor your account and probably knows you are posting to two or three cities. Do you have multiple accounts and each account posts to a different city? Are you doing that from your dealership? Could be they monitor what IP addresses access your account and if it’s the same IP accessing multiple accounts the Flag bot strikes. It seems this is part of the major crackdown by Craigslist. Just try and stick with one location for now maybe. Remember: What’s more important? Posting a car for sale in one city or trying to post it to two cities and getting it deleted?
Do away with multiple accounts.
Delete your ads.
When you open your Craigslist account how many pages of green do you see? Start deleting your old ads before you post the same vehicle a second time around. OR, better yet, use the re-post feature in Craigslist to send your ad back through to the top of the search results. That feature is there for a reason, it’s allowed. What Craigslist does not want to see is the same car for sale 3 times and all ads are active. If you have 50 cars in inventory you should not have more than 50 active ads.You may consider reducing your active ads even more right now. The Flagbot could see your account as over posting even if you are legitimately posting only one ad per vehicle. Or, it could be because of this next tip:
Post throughout the day, not at one time.
I know, it’s so easy right? Just take an hour and throw up all of your inventory every morning while watching the Today show. Well, spam usually enters by the same method and we are thinking if you are posting multiple ads at one time the Flagbot thinks your trying to spam the site, yes, even if you aren’t. Post.Post throughout the day. It’s going to be more difficult to manage but as we remind you, at this point it is better to get fewer ads throughout the day than none at all.
And finally…don’t do anything “Spammy”!
- Start fresh. Delete all of your ads.
- Wait a few days (until you’re out of timeout).
- Start posting again staying in line with Craigslist and using the tips above.
